Yatta, Yatta - The Vyatta Monthly Newsletter

PLEASED TO MEET YOU

We've just returned from Interop Las Vegas where we met with tons of customers, users and new Vyatta converts. During the three day event we handed out almost 1000 CDs and got the opportunity to share the Vyatta story with thousands of networking professionals both on the show floor and during Dave's session with Cisco & Juniper.  Thank you all for stopping by our booth.

For those of you that are new to Vyatta and our Yatta Yatta newsletter, welcome to the Vyatta community - we're glad that you are considering Vyatta as your the routing and security solution for your network.

As always - send questions, suggestions, ideas, wants, needs, gripes, etc. to tmccafferty @ vyatta.com

 RUMBLE IN THE DESERT

VYATTA TAKES THE STAGE WITH CISCO & JUNIPER

If you weren't at Interop - you missed Dave Roberts mixing it up with Cisco and Juniper in a session titled:
Is Routing Undergoing a Mid-Life Crisis?

The audio should be available soon - but in the mean time you can get a good overview of what went down in Sean Michael Kerner's story  Open Source vs. Proprietary Routing Rumble

 VYATTA CONNECTS CITYWIDE NETWORK

HOW POWERFUL IS VYATTA?

In Portland Texas, Vyatta was used as the core router with 24 GigE ports as well as in small units in patrol cars, fire vehicles, microwave towers, servers in various city buildings and more to create a MAN (Metro Area Network).  Vyatta software is used for routing, firewall, VPN and intrusion prevention to connect & protect the city's data and VoIP infrastructure.

"I could easily see us spending well over $250,000 for Cisco equipment to replicate what we did here for less than $10,000 with Vyatta," - Terrell Elliot - City of Portland Texas

QUAGGA BGP BUG FIXED
From the "Why should I purchase Vyatta?" files...

On Sunday May 3, a bug was discovered in Quagga that caused a BGP crash . Vyatta TAC identified the problem and notified subscription customers immediately. Vyatta subscription edition customers were delivered a patch in under 24 hours.

When things like this happen we hate to leave our community users waiting for a patch, but it's not a simple task to rebuild code, test fixes, and work with customers to get patches applied. Our subscription customers will always be our priority. This is why Vyatta recommends that users running Vyatta in production networks purchase subscriptions and/or Vyatta appliances.
