Yatta, Yatta - The Vyatta Monthly Newsletter

ALL IN THE NAME OF PROGRESS

It's always interesting to make radical or even not so radical changes to anything when you've got an active user base. Just this week we announced VC4 Alpha 2 (a radical change in our code) and Vyatta.org, (a new site for the Vyatta community). Of course, the first two comments that we received when we launched Vyatta.org were one from a user who loved it and one from a user who hated it.  Since then feedback has been positive. Now it's your turn to visit the site, download the code and the let us know what you think.

As always, if you have questions, suggestions, ideas, wants, needs, gripes etc - tmccafferty @ vyatta.com

THE NEW VYATTA.ORG COMMUNITY SITE

"Mailing lists? That's so old school!"
"Where are the forums?"
"Do I have to create another login?"
"What's a wiki?"

We spent a lot of time considering all of the feedback we've gotten since Vyatta launched its first set of code with nothing but a wiki and some bare bones mailing lists and have come up with...

The new Vyatta.org community site. http://www.vyatta.org

This site rolls all of the tools and content from the wiki and mailman mailing lists into a single sign-on supersite of communication tools and information.  Going forward Vyatta.org will be the central site for community participation, code innovations and some other soon to be revealed surprises.

Some cool new features are:

Vyatta Forums - The new Vyatta forums actually function as both forums and mailing lists.  For those of you who prefer the mailing list style, we have maintained that exact same functionality. You will have to first register, then subscribe to the forums and you will be able to post and reply to threaded e-mail discussions from your e-mail client the same way you do today.  If you prefer the ease of forums, we've got that now too!

Data Centerfold - Send us a picture of your rack! Don't get too excited, we mean equipment rack.

VYATTA COMMUNITY EDITION 4 - ALPHA 2

VC4 ALPHA 2 -  BUG HUNT

It's time to turn up the heat on testing. From the feedback we have been receiving, it's clear that some people are actively working with VC4 Alpha 1, and hopefully now Alpha 2.

To thank you for the help you're providing by exposing VC4 Alpha 2 to a more diverse set of environments than we can recreate in the lab, we're going to provide a little bounty on filed bugs:

the Vyatta Deluxe Schwag Kit(tm):
* Exclusive Vyatta blue logo polo shirt
* High capacity Vyatta logo bistro coffee mug
* Sporty Vyatta logo baseball cap

The rules and regs are in the Vyatta Announce Forum

Happy Hunting

"I've been a Cisco guy since the 2500 series was "groundbreaking" and have never seen such useful and fast help from TAC, let alone pre-sales support. We'll definitely be purchasing the Vyatta Enterprise router for our company, and recommending it to our clients. The product is great, but more importantly the support has been fantastic. It really eases the largest fear of moving a mission-critical role like routing off of traditional appliances into open source software."
