Vyatta Open Arcade Classic Raises Funds for Open-Source Projects

Luminaries and Attendees Show Support with Gaming Skill and Contributions

San Mateo, CA – 2007-08-14 05:00:00 – Vyatta, the leader in Linux-based networking, raised more than $5,000 for five open-source technology projects during its inaugural Vyatta Open Arcade Classic held last week. Open-source luminaries - Jeremy Allison of Samba Project, Larry Augustin of VA Linux, Simon Crosby of XenSource, Mike Schroepfer of Mozilla, and Jacob Taylor of SugarCRM – chose the charity projects. The proceeds will be evenly divided among the projects, including Samba Project, Free Software Foundation, Linux Foundation, SQLite, and Extjs.

More than 300 attendees at the event challenged each other to original, stand-up video arcade games, including Asteroids, Pac-Man, Defender, Donkey Kong, and Centipede. At the end of the day, for each game, a donation was made in the name of the highest scoring gamer to the designated open-source project. The winners were:

Kevin Weiss - PAC MAN - Score: 28510 - SQLite
Larry Augustin - Defender - Score:35575 - Samba
Jerry Del Rio - Asteroids - Score 16860 - Free Software Foundation
Peder Ulander - Donkey Kong - Score 18500 - Extjs
JC Utter - Centipede - Score 38018 - Linux Foundation

"The competition became heated at times, but it was great fun and the gaming skill level was quite impressive," said Dave Roberts, VP of strategy and marketing for Vyatta. "It was gratifying to meet so many people who support our vision of disrupting the networking world with open-source technology. We hope the donations will help these great open-source projects expand their vision and continue to disrupt their markets."
