Vyatta Appoints Michael E. Fox as Vice President of Services and Support

Industry Veteran to Champion the Open-Source Customer

San Mateo, CA – 2006-07-19 05:00:00 – Vyatta today announced that Michael E. Fox has joined the company as vice president of services and support, responsible for ensuring an excellent customer experience for users of the Vyatta Open Flexible Router (OFR), the industry's first enterprise-class open-source router platform. Fox brings to Vyatta more than 20 years of industry experience, including roles as vice president and general manager in telecommunications, systems engineering and consulting.

"Michael has a deep history not only as a leader of highly technical field sales and support teams, but also as a network manager for both a large enterprise and a carrier," said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta. "He is a natural fit to hold the responsibility for maintaining the close relationships we are establishing with our users and the open-source community. In delivering the industry's first open source router, we recognize that the customer experience is critical for our success and for ushering in broad acceptance of open source networking solutions by mid-sized and large enterprises."

Prior to Vyatta, Michael was at carrier Ethernet solutions provider Atrica, where he served in a variety of roles. As managing director and general manager of Atrica Systems and Services India, he was responsible for Atrica's entire operation in India and supported the design, deployment, and operation of the world's largest Ethernet project, covering the entire country of India. He also served as vice president of business development and consulting engineering. Prior to Atrica, Michael spent seven years at Nortel Networks (Bay Networks/Wellfleet) where among several roles, he served as vice president of customer advocacy, responsible for the company's "Customer for Life" initiative, and as vice president of systems engineering, technical marketing, and knowledge management where he had global responsibility for both carrier and enterprise functions. Michael also held executive roles in network operations for a large enterprise and a service provider.

"Supporting our customers and the Vyatta Community presents unique opportunities and challenges as we look to deliver on our promise of a flexible, low-cost router capable of highly reliable operation," said Fox. "This is an extremely exciting time to be involved in open-source development, and I'm delighted to be a part of the Vyatta team."

Vyatta is developing the Open Flexible Router (OFR), a flexible, cost-effective, and secure alternative to the incumbent, closed-source solutions that dominate the market today. The company has cultivated a community that brings together users and developers to shape the product and advance the cause of open-source networking. A beta version of the Vyatta OFR is currently available for download.
