Vyatta Appoints ICSI Senior Researcher to Advisory Board
XORP Project Lead, Dr. Atanu Ghosh, to Offer Strategic Guidance as Vyatta Readies its Open-Source Router
San Mateo, CA – 2006-06-20 05:00:00 – Vyatta today welcomed Dr. Atanu Ghosh, senior researcher at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) to its advisory board. A “who’s who†of networking and open-source industry experts, the Vyatta advisory board provides invaluable advice and insight on product development and technology adoption issues as Vyatta prepares to bring its open-source networking solutions to market. Ghosh joins existing advisors Simon Crosby, CTO of XenSource; Tony Li, software architect at Tropos Networks; Dave Newman, networking industry veteran; and Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla vice president of engineering.
Ghosh has more than 20 years of experience in IP networking. As senior researcher at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley, he has championed open-source networking software and led XORP (eXtensible Open Router Project) over the last three years. XORP is a key component of Vyatta’s open-source router platform, the Open Flexible Router (OFR). Prior to ICSI, Atanu conducted research on multimedia communication systems, multicast protocols and active networks for various academic institutions in England and Australia. Before embarking on his research career, he spent several years in the computing industry focusing on the areas of operating systems and networking.
“Vyatta is a prime example of the power of a supportive and motivated community to spur creativity and innovation. The beauty of an open-source solution is that it provides the ability to develop customized features. This ultimately benefits the research world and the commercial market alike, as we are no longer beholden to the whims of the dominant networking vendors,†said Ghosh. “Vyatta has been a strong supporter of the XORP project, and I’m pleased to participate in Vyatta’s open-source networking community.â€
Vyatta is developing the OFR, a flexible, cost-effective, and secure alternative to the incumbent, closed-source solutions that dominate the market today. The company recently launched a community designed to bring together users and developers to shape the product and advance the cause of open-source networking. A beta version of the Vyatta OFR is currently available for download.
