As we round the corner to 1,000,000 downloads, it’s been interesting to watch web traffic trends emerge. Without revealing secrets or invoking “Big Brother” fears, the marketing tools that Vyatta uses give us so much insight into geographic, demographic and specific user data from website visitors that I thought it would be fun to share some generic download data :
1. Over 50% of the Fortune 500 have downloaded Vyatta
2. Virtual machines represent a quickly growing 50% of Vyatta downloads
3. Vyatta is downloaded over 25,000 times per month
For a little extra fun (and a chance for a free T) – see if you can answer these:
A. Which company is consistently the number two visitor in terms of monthly traffic to Vyatta web sites over the past 5 years?
B. How many individuals have registered at Vyatta.com with a company name of “None”?
(within 100 will be close enough)
Send your answers to feedback @ vyatta.com and we’ll select ten winners to receive an exclusive

Bloomberg News - Cisco Rivals Woo Users With Price Cuts, Less ‘Intimidation’
Vyatta Customer Matt Mackes of Delta Sonic Car Wash Systems was interviewed and quoted:
----------
Matthew Mackes, a network administrator at Delta Sonic Car Wash Systems Inc. in Buffalo, New York, is another former Cisco customer. He ripped out Cisco boxes from his company’s network two years ago, when he was redesigning the system to better connect the phones, security cameras and plasma TVs displaying ads in Delta Sonic’s car washes and gas stations.
Mackes stacked the Cisco switches on a table and asked his colleagues if there was any reason to keep the gear. No one spoke up, he said. He estimates he saved $500,000 using technology from Vyatta Inc. and other suppliers instead.
“At a certain point, it becomes obsolete,” Mackes said.

Thanks for the great comments Matt!
