The future of networking: Software, On-demand, Flexible licensing
At Vyatta we believe that the days of big iron are over. We've been in the market proving that for over five years replacing Cisco equipment in customers around the world with software and off-the-shelf hardware or virtual machines. With the trend toward cloud computing, we are now seeing Fortune 500 enterprises, global hosting providers and Tier 1 software distributors accelerate that migration away from hardware-based networking by choosing the flexibility of software-based and virtualized routing and security. In this newsletter we've included some customer and partner examples of the types of visionaries that are making that shift.

I'm pleased to announce that the community release of Vyatta Network OS , VC6.2, is generally available. This release is an incremental update that includes:

- Improved Configuration Management
- IPS Enhancements
- OpenVPN Enhancements
- IPv6 DNS Resolver
- HTTPS Filtering for VyattaGuard (VSE only)
- Branch Maintenance and Rebase to Debian Squeeze

CARPATHIA HOSTING SECURES CLOUD CUSTOMERS with VYATTA
Carpathia Hosting, a leading provider of complex managed hosting services for government agencies and enterprises and (top 20 cloud provider), has selected the Vyatta Network OS to provide on-demand cloud security to customers utilizing Carpathia's InstantOn cloud platform.
"Carpathia provides hosting and cloud services for some of the world's most demanding organizations,"said Jon Greaves, Chief Technology Officer at Carpathia. "The Vyatta Network OS satisfies our customers' most critical compliance and security challenges, while offering the flexibility to work within our on-demand cloud infrastructure and business model."
To better serve its cloud customers, the company needed a per tenant virtual machine-based networking and security solution that included enterprise-grade firewall, VPN and intrusion prevention and was available with a utility pricing model.

Dell Secures Cloud-based Desktop Services with On Demand Networking from Vyatta

The Vyatta solution streamlines provisioning of VPN services, eliminating the need to install an additional VPN device within Dell's datacenter for each new Desktop as a Service customer. Technicians simply create another instance of Vyatta's VMware ESX template on the cloud server using Dell's cloud provisioning platform to add basic configuration parameters. The service can be up and running within minutes.

HEMC Broadband - Vyatta provides core routing and firewalling for broadband network

As the HEMC Broadband customer base and requirements grew, Stickel recognized the need to redesign the network beyond a single core router with just one node of connection (NoC) to the Internet. To provide higher availability, a second NoC was needed in a different city. Deploying a primary and backup router in two different locations, however, would cost nearly $100,000 if purchased from Cisco. Stickel even considered deploying used Cisco equipment, but the cost and support requirements were still higher than Vyatta.
