FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEVyatta Apologizes After Nortel Debacle
Open Networking Unwittingly Claims Its First Proprietary Victim
San Mateo, CA 2009-01-16 05:00:00 Vyatta, the leader in open networking, today delivered an open apology to Nortel (NYSE: NT) after the networking giant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware bankruptcy court this week. As the world’s leading provider of the open alternative to proprietary networking vendors, Vyatta contritely described how the accident happened.
"We didn’t mean to do it… you’ve got to believe us," said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta. "We weren’t even looking their way. We had our heads down, fiddling around getting our Version 5 ready for release when BAM! we heard the implosion in the north. It just went off. No one is more shocked than we are. Even my mother is upset." Herrell added, "Yes, we knew we were gaining market share rapidly but we never thought it would come to this. We thought it was just healthy competition, you know, good for everyone. I guess we were wrong. We feel just awful."
Vyatta is gaining traction in a number of industries, including the service provider, government and higher education markets where vendors like Nortel and Cisco were once the dominant players. Every month, more than 20,000 network administrators around the world are finding that Vyatta delivers all the functionality and performance at a mere fraction of the cost of proprietary solutions.
To help Nortel customers through this rough time of uncertainty, Vyatta also announced the extension of its highly successful "Do It For the First Time With Vyatta" promotion. This promotion was created in late 2008 to help introduce Vyatta to new customers. The promotion gives first-time Vyatta customers a discount of 20 percent on their first order.
