Vyatta Commits to Removing All Malicious Network Traffic

Users to 'SEE NO EVIL' with the first implementation of RFC 3514

Belmont, CA – 2008-04-01 05:00:00 – Vyatta today announced that it will deliver significant firewall enhancements designed to make its market-leading open source router-firewall products impervious to evil hackers seeking to subvert worldwide computer networks. The functionality will be the result of Vyatta's implementation of RFC 3514, titled The Security Flag in the IPv4 Header, an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) technical proposal for greatly increasing network security.

"The fact is, computer security is really, really hard," said Robert Bays, chief technology officer at Vyatta. "Evil hackers are simply ambiguous in their intentions and sometimes network technology products like Vyatta can be fooled into allowing inappropriate traffic to pass. The new security flag documented in RFC 3514 makes it so much easier to determine the intent of opaque network traffic. With RFC 3514 support in place, I have no problem telling the world that I’ll bet my next paycheck on Vyatta’s ability to put an end to the shenanigans of evil hackers."

Vyatta has made a name for itself by delivering superior open source networking solutions to market for a fraction of the price of proprietary products. Vyatta's software runs on standard hardware platforms and on Vyatta appliances and delivers world-class routing, firewall, and VPN functionality. Vyatta says that more than 10,000 people download its software every month, with usage growing exponentially. These people are reported to be smarter, better looking, and drive nicer cars than users of proprietary products.

"RFC 3514 support will be an important contribution to the security of computer networks," said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta. "I mean, it’s not as big of a contribution as the carbon footprint reduction you might get when purchasing other new proprietary products, but it’s still pretty significant. As a demonstration of Vyatta's forward thinking, we have committed to implementing RFC 3514 at a future point in our product roadmap. Unlike our competition, we're pretty confident that we can implement it in less than 5 years, with a total budget not to exceed $250 million. There's no way my venture capital firms would trust me with that amount of money, anyway, so we’ll have to make do."
