About Vyatta |
Vyatta (pronounced vee-AH-tah.)
Corporate Overview
Vyatta has changed the networking world by developing the first commercially supported, open-source router and firewall solution. Vyatta solutions combine the features, performance, and reliability of an enterprise router and firewall with the cost savings, flexibility, and security of open source to introduce new levels of economics, choice, and control into the network.
Vyatta was founded in 2005 by a fusion of networking veterans. Unlike many companies, the staff of Vyatta have an eclectic mix of networking equipment, open-source, and networking operator backgrounds. Our founder, Allan Leinwand, was recruited to Cisco Systems when the company was approximately 100 employees in size. Others of us have built and operated world-wide networks and some were key players in the growth of open-source companies. Together, the Vyatta team has extensive networking and open-source experience from companies such as Cisco, Nortel, Redhat, Sun Microsystems, Redback Networks, Digital Island, Level 3, Internap, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, AMD, and others.
The Vyatta Name
The word "vyatta" is ancient Sanskrit and means "open." We thought this name was particularly fitting since Vyatta is a new company with ancient, back-to-basics values, focused on bringing open source networking products to market.
The Vyatta Logo
The Vyatta logo represents the ending of an eclipse. Vyatta believes that open source is the natural state of affairs in the technology world, but that for the last couple of decades closed source has "eclipsed" it. That eclipse is now ending. The Vyatta logo shows the light-giving sun, representing open source and shown with an "O," coming out from behind the darkening moon of closed source.
